Villa Park Police Department takes part in Blue Envelope Program

Free program materials are available at the police department and Village Hall

The Villa Park Police Department recently announced that it now offers the Blue Envelope Program to help improve communication between police officers and individuals on the autism spectrum during traffic stops and other law enforcement encounters. This program is designed to reduce stress and support safer, more positive interactions for everyone involved.

The Blue Envelope is a bright, easy-to-recognize tool that can be presented to an officer during a traffic stop or other encounter. It signals that the individual may have communication differences or specific support needs.

The envelope can include: driver's license or state ID, vehicle registration and proof of insurance, emergency contact information, and notes about communication preferences or support needs.

Participation is free and voluntary. No registration or proof of diagnosis is required.

Program materials are available at the Villa Park Police Department, 40 S. Ardmore Ave., and at Village Hall, 20 S. Ardmore Ave. After picking up the materials, fill in any relevant information, add copies of important documents, and keep the envelope with you or in your vehicle.
